Apothecary Jars

Soo...Pinterest. Yeah....

I actually DO stuff that I pin. Crazy right? I've actually done quite a bit. But here's my most recent with a tutorial in case you love it SOOO much that you just have to make your own.

I found this tutorial on pinterest, and then had to make some drastic changes.

Recipe for Apothecary Jars

• Short, Fat Candlestick holders. (NOT the tall skinny ones. They become seriously top heavy and break)
• Different sizes of glass jars, candle holders, cups
• Loctite Clear Silicone Waterproof Sealant
• Scotch Brite Pad

**You will be tempted to just use hot glue. Don't. Repeat. DO NOT USE HOT GLUE! It won't bind correctly and you will end up thinking you're done and start carrying them to the bathroom, just to have ALL of them start falling apart while you're walking and bust to pieces on the floor. Just trust me.


It's best to choose different sizes and shapes of jars/holders so that you have some variety. Otherwise, they just look like stuck up peoples booze cups. I got both the holders and glass assortment from Dollar Tree.

Make sure to remove any stickers. Wash with warm water and soap to get any oils, dust, dirt off of the glass. Dry thoroughly.

Take a scotch brite pad to your squeaky clean, dry, glass and rough up the surfaces that you're going to be binding.

Pull out your handy dandy Loctite sealant and get it together. P.S. After trying and trying to push out some of the silicone for, I dunno, 5 minutes or so...figure out that you need to cut off the tip of the nozzle to get any sealant out. Just a tip.

Once you have your sealant ready to go, apply a thin-ish layer to the top of the candlestick. Try and make the layer pretty even.

Then, RIGHT AWAY, put your glass on top of the candlestick. The sealant is very forgiving, so if you place it in the wrong spot, just slide it to where you want it. Don't pick it up. SLIDE.


When placing the glass, look down from the top of the glass as you're setting it down. You'll get a better idea of where it's going to end up.

Repeat until you have the desired amount of apothecary jars.

Once you have them the way you want, move the jars to a safe, out of the way spot to let them set. When you're moving them, make sure to have one hand on the candlestick and the other on the glass. Also, make sure it's a FLAT surface or the silicone will let the glass slide. We don't want this.

Let it cure for a good 2 hours before moving.

Then fill with grand things. Like cotton balls, make-up brushes, garbage, used floss, tic-tacs, whatever! Because, everything looks better in an apothecary jar.
