As you well should. But I know how we got that scar on our right thumb. And nobody else does. We were opening the gate to feed the rabbits in the rental house, and our hand got caught on a piece of metal that was sticking out that GOUGED our hand. And now we have a permanent scar. Freaking chain-link fences. That's how we got the scar on our thigh too. That and swim team. We should quit both of them. Cold turkey.
There. Now that we've established that this really is future Ashley, we can move on to what I'm really here to tell you.
This is the day before your 23rd birthday. You've been having a rough go of it. And that's putting it lightly. Because this is the internet and I know you don't want me to go into too much detail...I'll just summarize with this.
You know the Neverending Story? Awesome story right. Atrayu was SO. HOT. Anyway...apply the neverending part to lady problems. A trip to the ER. 2 different doctors. No foreseeable end in sight. Every day at work is a struggle. Not because you hate work. Just because you are so physically drained. And sorry to tell you this, but it won't get better for awhile. The second doctor you go to though, he KNOWS what he's doing. Stick with him. In about a month, you're gonna have to have another spinal tap. And this one is really gonna hurt. But it's going to be okay. You'll find a really good neurologist that isn't psycho. And before you know it, things will even out.
But ON your 23rd birthday, your Jeannie friend will come to your rescue just like she knows you need her to. She will take you to go get the best and most needed pedi of your life. Then she will take you to Texas where she will introduce you to their sweet potato...stuff. YUM! And even though you don't have very much energy, she makes up for it. Because that's what your person does. Revel in this time you get to spend with her, because she will be in India for your next birthday. And you have no idea how much you will miss her.
Enjoy your time at Central Utah Clinic. You've FINALLY found a place you love to work. Where you enjoy the patients, the people you work with and around, and the actual job. But, it will only last until December. In early November, Heavenly Father will start reminding you that you need to be in school and that you need to make school and work...work. And you'll try and make it work with CUC, but it just won't. So, you'll look and look and look for jobs online, and you'll find one that is PERFECT. At least the hours seem perfect. And you'll ask your friend Dallan if you can use him as a reference, and it turns out that he knows the person that will be interviewing you. Don't sweat it. You only have to go to one interview. They love you. You get the job.
You start work as a Phlebotomist at the Riverton Hospital on December 23rd. But this job takes you awhile to adjust to. To decide that you like it. You immediately acclimate and pick up everything, but you can't decide if you actually like the place you work for a good 2 months. But you finally decide you do. Don't worry.
At Riverton, you learn how to draw babies and kids. You don't let on, but it makes you nervous at first. After watching about 3 heelsticks, they ask you if you want to do one. You answer yes, say a prayer real quick, and Heavenly Father smiles down on you in that moment. He knows you need some focus, so He makes it so that the baby sleeps through the whole thing. Which has only happened again a total of 1 time.
You go to the temple this year. In fact,a lot of them. Timpanogos, Draper, Oquirrh Mountain, Provo, and Jordan River. Oquirrh Mountain has become your go to temple because it's 5 minutes from work. You form this awesome relationship with the people that are there every time you go. Especially with Brother Matthews, the old guy that is in the font. He smiles and waves at you every time he sees you, even when you're just sitting in the chapel waiting your turn.
Concerts. You go to SO many concerts. And you don't regret ANY of them. Tim McGraw, Kelly Clarkson, Josh Turner-that Britney will surprise you with for your birthday, Parachute-which will be EASILY one of the best concerts you've ever been to, The Lumineers-where you will decide to NEVER EVER go back to Saltair, Imagine Dragons...TWICE, Allred-VanLadyLove-LunaLune, Josh Groban-where you will follow the Reese's Pieces trail, Michael Buble, Lady Antebellum, William Joseph, and Tyler Ward-also one of the best concerts you've ever been to. Get excited.
You'll go back to UVU. You think you can handle 3 classes. HA! No. You end up dropping all of your classes besides your English 1020 class. Which is a good thing. You need to ease back in. And the teacher is kinda dumb. You pull a solid A.
One day, when money is really tight right after you've started school, you'll go to In-N-Out because you've forgotten your lunch. You go to pay for it with the change you've scraped together from your car, and the person at the window will say, "Oh actually, the person in the car in front of you paid for your meal." You'll pull forward, and wave at the lady in the car in the front of you. You'll hold it together long enough to get your food, and then burst into tears and call your mom.
You'll be asked to speak in church for the first time in this ward. For the first time EVER in a singles ward. You've escaped it for almost 6 years. Just embrace it. It won't be that bad.
Heather is going to have her second baby this year. He's going to be born on June 20, 2014. They're going to name him Milo. Kelsey is also going to have a baby boy! Nancy will have baby Caleb on June 13th. Yay babies!
Dad will have some heart trouble. He'll go to some doctors, they won't really know what it is at first, but it will be heart trouble. He'll eventually be hospitalized at UVRMC. But he'll have a great doctor. He'll have 3 stents placed in his right artery. But you won't be nervous or scared. Just tired. And everything will be okay.
Britney will get MARRIED. And you'll get to be a Bridesmaid.

You'll go to the tulip festival with Jessica, Jenny, and Jamie. Dad will teach you how to make pies for Thanksgiving. For your birthday this year, Dad will get you an oil painting class. And you will both be surprisingly good at it.
You'll get to go to Portland and Seattle for vacation. You'll get to go on a ferryboat ride and live your Grey's fantasy.
You'll discover such shows as Chicago Fire, Chicago PD, Sherlock, and Nikita. And you will become obsessed. And it will be okay.
You will read many, many good books. But make SURE you read Grave Mercy and Poison Study. Those are ones you don't want to miss.
You might feel lonely at times. Your friends are mostly married now. Reach out to others. There are people there. Overall, you are going to have a good year. Most of all, you're going to become more and more aware of how much the Lord is aware of you. Of how much He loves and watches out for you. And how much your parents and brother love you. And how that is never going to change.
Have a great 23rd birthday,
Future Ashley
